Interactive DataVis Tool: Freely Accessible World-of-Work Data

This tool enables individual members of the public to extract information from the BIBB/BAuA Employment Survey (BIBB/BAuA-Erwerbstätigenbefragung) conducted jointly by the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health with the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung, BIBB). The data made available were gathered in surveys conducted between 2006 and 2024 and are structured in seventeen topic groups with a diverse range of keywords and filter options.

Easy to use - even without statistical expertise

The DataVis tool offers a user-friendly interface that is also readily comprehensible for people without a background in statistics. Users can select the topic, the variable of interest, sociodemographic and occupational characteristics, the year, and - if desired - further variables, step by step.

Selecting these preferences prompts the tool to automatically create a graph or table. In order to present the results accessibly, it is possible to switch between diagram and table view options. The results generated can be directly downloaded and used for further analyses or presentations.

Scientific use

Additionally, scientists are able to work with a scientific use file (2006, 2012, and 2018 survey waves). These datasets can be requested by contacting the BIBB Research Data Centre.

Background: BIBB/BAuA Employment Survey

Every six years, BAuA collaborates with the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training to conduct an extensive survey of employees based on about 20,000 computer-assisted telephone interviews.

The study focuses on topics related to workplaces, stressors, and health impairments. The survey is intended to track how the world of work is evolving over time and monitor changes that take place. Its results can be used to devise suitable design measures and identify issues that need to be researched.
