Management at BAuA

Managers with backgrounds in various disciplines and a broad range of different specialist expertise hold leadership positions within the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA). The main attribute they all share is their commitment to good management. As one of BAuA's managers, you will lead the work done by your team. Your decisions will therefore contribute crucially to BAuA's continuing organisational development and institutional culture, and you will also be helping shape the human-centred future of work.

Your freedom to innovate

Your role as a manager at BAuA will be rooted in our Work and Research Programme. You will work together with your team and in interdisciplinary collaborations with staff from other divisions to address central issues for occupational safety and health, generating relevant interventions that promote human-centred work design in practice.

Various approaches can be used for this purpose, including in-house research projects, the performance of regulatory functions (e.g. in the fields of chemicals regulation, the regulation of AI, or market surveillance), and the provision of policy advice that stimulates debate and discussion (e.g. by contributing to the deliberations of expert committees, exploiting new formats for the transfer of scientific knowledge to practitioners, or further developing modern, innovative administrative structures).

To do this you will work closely with the Federal Institute’s various divisions, but also with a range of authorities and research networks at the national and EU levels. In addition, we will give you the freedom to devise and implement innovative approaches to the concrete organisation of your team's work.

Management is more than just a research topic as far as BAuA is concerned. We set great store by excellent, modern management methods. Our management principles and management vision form the basis for successful interventions and enable our managers to perform their duties effectively and take well-targeted initiatives.

We believe in structures and processes that foster communication and collaboration. What counts at BAuA is the responsibility we share for achieving our objective. The relationships between academic colleagues from the different specialist units and divisions and our administrative and technical employees are consequently characterised by mutual respect as well.

Investing in skills: the BAuA Management Academy    

We invest in our managers’ development. With the BAuA Management Academy, we offer our managers a format that allows them to network with one another, keep abreast of the latest advances, and carry on refining their management skills. All the Federal Institute’s managers meet for regular closed-door conferences, which concentrate particularly on the issues BAuA will have to get to grips with in future.
