BAuA’s Work and Research Programme 2026–2029
The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA) strives to ensure workplaces in Germany are safe, healthy, and human-centred and also remain competitive in a dynamic, evolving world of work. In its research and science-based technical activities, BAuA responds to scientific and policy developments and addresses needs and ideas identified from dialogue with important specialised scientific and academic societies, the occupational safety and health (OSH) community, employers, and trade unions. It publishes a work and research programme every four years detailing how it intends to carry out these tasks.
Strategic fields of action
The Work and Research Programme 2026–2029 is structured around five central strategic fields of action. These fields of action allow long-term objectives to be pursued and at the same time permit relevant, new topics and challenges to be identified and tackled. They are rooted in scientific discourse about the human-friendly design of work and make it possible to look at topics from contrasting perspectives. This approach promotes the interdisciplinary study of the manifold issues relating to work and health. Furthermore, topics can be examined across several fields of action simultaneously, with distinct priorities being set in each field.
Our current work and research programme for the years 2026–2029 is divided into the following five fields of action, each of which pulls together a number of thematic areas:
- Field of Action A: Systematically surveying and assessing changes in the world of work
- Field of Action B: Ensuring safety in use and usability
- Field of Action C: Designing human-centred work systems
- Field of Action D: Preserving and promoting health and work ability
- Field of Action E: Further developing instruments and communicating knowledge
