It often feels as if change is accelerating our daily work – requiring us to do more in less time. But is this perception supported by the data? This fact sheet explores this question. How often do employees in Germany report high work intensity, and how many find it stressful? Based on data from more than 17,000 respondents in each of the last four BIBB/BAuA Employment Surveys (2006–2024), the results show that while some aspects of work intensity have declined slightly over time, others have remained stable or even increased.
