Fixed-term employees: High job insecurity but high job satisfaction

According to the Federal Statistical Office, around 4.57 million people in Germany are employed on a temporary basis. Analyses from the 2024 BIBB/BAuA Employment Survey show that fixed-term employees experience both high job insecurity and high job satisfaction. In the short term, fixed-term contracts can offer opportunities, but in the long term they are often associated with risks that may lead to precarious employment conditions.
