In order to gain insights into the implementation of the SARS-CoV-2 occupational safety and health regulation of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales, BMAS) as well as the according recommendations for action in company practice, safety experts, company doctors, small entrepreneurs and other selected target groups were interviewed. The focus was on how they implemented measures in companies, where difficulties occurred and which technical, organisational and personal solutions worked well.
Of particular importance was the collection of good case studies - so-called "best practices". For this purpose, three methodological approaches were used building up on each other: an online survey with a sample of more than 720 participants, a telephone survey of experts primarily from high-risk sectors or areas of activity, and focus groups that critically reflected the available findings in detail.
In the context of the Corona pandemic, the school sector received special attention. The project therefore investigated the stresses, strains and challenges teachers in German schools face during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, how hygiene rules are implemented, where difficulties occur and which measures work well. Over 30,000 teachers participated in the survey. In addition, focus group interviews were conducted to validate the results of the quantitative survey and to determine any aspects it may not have covered.
From the findings, recommendations for action were derived. For example, consistent standards for the collection, documentation and processing of SARS-CoV-2 cases and target group-specific interventions were mentioned.
