Description:
The main objective of the research project "Lighting of workplaces: technology assessment of AmI-based lighting systems" is the development of a risk assessment tool for AmI-based and dynamic lighting systems. The special feature of these systems is their possibility to adjust according to the user context in a biologic effective way. With spatial and temporal changes of illumination parameters, such as light intensity and color, AmI-based lighting systems are able to induce melanopic and circadian effects. From occupational science perspective possible manipulative influence by AmI-based lighting systems on work performance of employees or the influence on circadian rhythms have to be considered critically. Another problem is that novel lighting technologies and dynamic lighting systems are considered only a minor extent by legislation. In addition to the technology assessment the influence on the circadian system and the technical feasibility of an AmI-based lighting system will be investigated in two sub-projects. All results are combined in a single approach to risk assessment.
