At the national level, BAuA uses its cooperations to maintain and improve the scientific quality of its research and development. The cooperations have been systematically developed and built on the basis of BAuA's work programme in recent years. BAuA has a special interest in the regional scientific landscape of its various locations (Dortmund, Berlin, Dresden). To this end, cooperation agreements exist with various universities and other research institutions, whose aim is to strengthen the joint activities in research, teaching, practice transfer and promotion of young researchers.
The main focus of the teaching activities lies on chemical safety and toxicology, hazardous material management, occupational medicine, epidemiology, product safety and occupational safety and health legislation. Qualification work of young academics, mainly doctoral theses, but also bachelor's, master's and diploma theses as well as student internships, are supervised by BAuA scientists, partly with the participation of BAuA laboratories. BAuA is also a training centre for the medical specialist field of "Occupational medicine" with an authorisation for further training for a period of 12 months.
Further national cooperations within the scope of research and development exist with state and federal authorities (in particular BfR, UBA, RKI, BAM), the trade associations IFA, IAG and IPA as well as the organisations of the social partners in the field of occupational safety and health.
