Social sustainability
In the summer of 2011, the City Council of Dortmund adopted a Science Masterplan. It is intended to help make Dortmund known as a science centre and to interconnect the scientific facilities in the city even more closely.
The Science Masterplan Dortmund describes four current and four potential scientific fields of competence for the profiling of the research landscape in Dortmund: logistics, production technology, biomedicine and research on active substances, school and education research, energy, health care information technology, insurance and risk management, social sustainability.
The subject area "Social Sustainability" is one of the scientific fields of competence with potential. Within the framework of the master plan, a detailed inventory of research, development and learning activities in Dortmund will be held and joint conferences as well as research projects will be initiated. The aim is to develop the topic into a cross-section for the Dortmund scientific community. At the 1st Dortmund Research Forum "Social Sustainability" on October 20, 2014, some 70 scientists from Dortmund exchanged their ideas in the framework of the DASA Working Environment exhibition in order to review the current status and to illuminate perspectives. The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA), the Demographics Network (ddn), the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences (FH Dortmund), the Leibniz Institute for Occupational Research (IfADo), the TU Dortmund University (TU Dortmund) and the City of Dortmund were the hosts of the event.
