Leading the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Well placed for the future: from July 2024 the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA) will be led by a three-member Presidium consisting of the Federal Institute's president, Isabel Rothe, its vice president, Prof. Anita Tisch, and Dr Rüdiger Pipke.
Brief introduction to the Presidium:
Isabel Rothe
Isabel Rothe has headed the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) since 1 November 2007. She studied occupational psychology at Technische Universität Berlin. After completing her studies in 1989, Isabel Rothe initially worked as a consultant in work and technology design. In 1992 she joined Schering AG, where she rose to become financial director for the company's production site in Berlin. At the beginning of 2004 Isabel Rothe became executive director of Jenapharm. She was appointed as President of BAuA at the end of 2007.
Prof. Anita Tisch
Prof. Anita Tisch will join the Presidium as BAuA’s vice president on 1 July. Prof. Tisch, who holds a doctorate in ergonomics and social sciences, has been head of BAuA’s Changing World of Work Division since June 2022. Her career at BAuA began in 2016, when she took charge of what was then the Working Time and Flexibilisation Unit. Prof. Tisch previously worked as a researcher and project leader at the Institute for Employment Research (Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung, IAB) in Nuremberg.
Dr Rüdiger Pipke
Dr Rüdiger Pipke will give up his current position as acting vice president. Although he is retiring, he will continue to be a member of the Presidium until the end of 2024. As one of BAuA's leadership trio, he will collaborate closely with its president and vice president to drive ahead interdisciplinary projects and promote effective transfers of expertise. A biologist who gained his PhD at the Ruhr University Bochum, Dr Pipke has worked in various capacities at the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health since 1992. From 2008 to 2024 he was responsible for the Hazardous Substances and Biological Agents Division.
