11th Symposium Light and Health

(in German)

The past two years have been shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated limitations and restrictions. Therefore, the 11th Symposium "Light and Health", originally planned for 2021, had to be cancelled. The symposium is now taking place for the first time in the form of a hybrid event - both in person at the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) in Dortmund and online. The symposium is being organized for the second time by the BAuA together with the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) and the Deutsche Lichttechnische Gesellschaft e.V. (LiTG).

The conference program of the symposium includes lectures by experts from various disciplines. Following the previous symposia, the 11th Symposium “Light and Health” will deal with the effects of optical radiation on people both at work and in their leisure time. The effects of light that can be perceived by the eye, as well as ultraviolet and infrared radiation, can be beneficial to health on the one hand, but can also be associated with risks on the other. This will be discussed in a total of six sessions of the two-day symposium. The three sessions of the first day are all dedicated to the research field of non-visual effects of light on people, which has been growing rapidly over the past two decades. On the following day, other topics will be discussed, e. g. the change in solar UV-radiation exposure as a result of climate change. The increased interest in using UV-C-radiation to disinfect room air and surfaces due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be discussed as well. The symposium rounds off by lectures on the topic of optical radiation protection.

The present conference proceedings contain extended abstracts for the lectures and posters in the order of the contributions in the conference program.
