Initiation phase of the German Center for Mental Health (DZPG): Analysis of working conditions and their effects on mental health

  • Project number: F 2577
  • Institution: Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA)
  • Status: Ongoing Project
  • Planned end: 2027-05-31

Description:

The BMBF-funded "German Centre for Mental Health" (DZPG), which is currently being established, conducts research to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. Its general aim is to promote mental health and resilience and to reduce the burden of and raise awareness for mental disorders in all age groups.

The DZPG comprises six locations spread across Germany with different research foci that cooperate with each other to achieve the overall goal. The DZPG thus offers opportunities for the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA) to expand its research network and become visible with its expertise. BAuA contributes to the 2-year DZPG start-up phase its special expertise in the analysis of working conditions and their effects on mental health. This also comprises research experience in the context of prevention, as well as in the identification and description of indicators on workload and work ability of employees.

Specifically, this includes evaluations of a longitudinal study of employees subject to social insurance contributions on mental health at work (BAuA study S-MGA) and, in addition, the provision of BAuA’s recommendations for action on the reintegration of employees into the workplace after a mental illness.

Furthermore, BAuA advises the project partners on the design of survey instruments, in particular on how and which measurement instruments on work-related characteristics should be taken into account.
