Occupational exposure to respirable dust and risk of myocardial infarction among former WISMUT employees

  • Project number: F 2329
  • Institution: Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA)
  • Status: Completed Project

Description:

Work related cardiovascular diseases belong to BAuAs main topics of research. Currently electronic recording of medical files from the health data archives is processed. Hospital discharge diagnosis of myocardial infarction will be used as endpoint in a nested case-control-study. The German uranium miners cohort, followed up by the Federal Office for Radial Protection, comprises nearly 60.000 former WISMUT employees. For each member of the cohort data on the occupational history required for exposure assessment are already available. So further studies on different endpoints like musculosceletal disorders can be done at low costs in the future. Additional information on relevant covariables like BMI, smoking habits, hypertension and diabetes will be obtained from the medical records in accordance with the particular study.
