Validation of the Job Content Questionnaire 2.0 (JCQ 2.0) - a German contribution to an international pilot study

  • Project number: F 2279
  • Institution: Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA)
  • Status: Completed Project

Description:

The demand-control model (DCM) is one of the world’s most recognised work stress models. In the past three decades, the DCM has contributed to an extended understanding of the interconnectedness of psychosocial work characteristics and health among workers. The DCM, like many other work stress models, has been developed in the 70ies and 80ies, thus in times when psychosocial stress exposures at work have been substantially different from those prevailing today.

In this project, a revised pilot version of the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ), used around the world to assess the DCM, will be applied among the urban working population (N=15.000) of a selected municipality. New aspects of today’s world of work will be assessed by means of new questionnaire items and will be related to an enhanced concept of the demand control model, focussing on associations with health outcomes. Psychometric validation will follow.

The project will be the last step of the so far 6 year lasting process of international JCQ 2.0 validation. It is carried out in close co-operation with Professor Robert Karasek (University of Massachusetts at Lowell) and further partners of the JCQ network from Europe, Asia and Australia.
