The Strategic Communication and Cooperation Staff Division manages the external communication activities of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA), and fosters the development of the Institute’s scientific and strategic cooperation with the scientific community and occupational safety and health (OSH) networks at national, European, and international level. It defines the strategic framework for BAuA’s public relations and represents the Institute in European and international committees and OSH networks. The division also includes BAuA's spokesperson.
The Strategic Communication and Cooperation Staff Division is subdivided into two staff units: Media and Communication, and Committees and Cooperation.
The Media and Communication Staff Unit is home to the central Internet Editorial Team responsible for BAuA's various websites and digital services, as well as the Institute’s Social Media Team. It also performs extensive functions relating to BAuA's many publications.
The unit's online communication work involves the strategic planning and administration of BAuA's website www.baua.de - from the conception and management of content to the technical implementation and organisation of the site. In addition, the unit maintains and manages several websites devoted to specialised topics, social media activities, and cross-media campaigns.
The communication team supports BAuA’s researchers in the realization of science-based publications such as research reports, brochures, and numerous other formats BAuA’s portfolio of publications reflects its tasks, the publication cultures prevalent in different disciplines, and the diversity of its target groups. The strategic framework for all these activities is provided by its internal publication strategy.
The Committees and Cooperation Staff Unit supports and prepares the meetings of BAuA's central management bodies and advisory committees, in particular the Scientific Advisory Board, the Advisory Board, and the Management Team. It is also responsible for the coordination of comprehensive publications, such as the Work and Research Programme, the annual report, and the quarterly magazine baua: Aktuell. The Press Office serves as the central point of contact for media requests.
This staff unit also manages and coordinates the German Focal Point for EU-OSHA, contributes BAuA’s expertise to the PEROSH European research network, and assists the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales, BMAS) in European committees such as the Advisory Committee for Safety and Health at Work (Beratender Ausschuss für Sicherheit und Gesundheit am Arbeitsplatz, ACSH).
Furthermore, it is responsible for establishing and promoting scientific cooperation with universities and other research institutes. The unit also runs the office of the Institute’s in-house Ethics Commission, which was established at the recommendation of the German Science Council (Wissenschaftsrat) and exclusively assesses BAuA research projects that do not fall within the remit of a medical ethics commission.
