Unit 1.1 Working Time and Flexibilisation

Unit 1.1 conducts research on key issues related to the organisation of working time, the flexibilisation of working time and place, and the effects of flexibilisation and digitalisation of work.

The focus is on changing working conditions as well as potential risks and opportunities for safety and health at work. Unit 1.1 generates scientific evidence for policy and practice and aims to contribute to the socio-political discourse on the future of work.

An important data source is the BAuA-Working Time Survey, which is conducted by Unit 1.1 as a panel survey every two years and provides a representative picture of working time in Germany.

Closely related are questions of technological change and its associated effects on working conditions, health and well-being of employees. These questions are also addressed empirically using different employee surveys, e.g., the DiWaBe survey (2.0), a survey on the effects of digitalisation - such as the use of artificial intelligence - on work and employees.
