The project "MapS - Measures for Control Guidance Sheets" focussed on the EMKG control guidance sheets (EMKG-SLF) of control strategy 2. These were to be updated, expanded and revised with the aim of achieving better connectivity with the target group of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

The project was supported by an advisory board. A literature review was carried out, in particular on the regulations of the Hazardous Substances Ordinance. In addition, a total of 22 company visits and work-based discussions were held with users of the EMKG Workplace & Chemicals (EMKG) and the EMKG-SLF (control strategy 2) in 14 companies.

On this basis the previous EMKG-SLF of control strategy 2 were comprehensively revised and fundamentally restructured.

In addition, a whole series of new EMKG-SLFs was developed. These included eye protection, ignition source prevention, the procurement of extraction equipment and the storage of hazardous substances. Instead of the previous 28 EMKG-SLFs, there are now 48 EMKG-SLFs available for measure level 2.

The previous three-digit numbering system was changed to a four-digit numbering system in order to reflect the new structure of the EMKG-SLF of measure level 2 in a comprehensible manner.

The EMKG-SLFs were also comprehensively redesigned and standardised. Redundancies were reduced by means of references wherever possible, so that most of the EMKG-SLFs have been made much leaner and clearer.

The design of the EMKG-SLF now allows users to mark requirements as fulfilled and to add explanations and comments to each requirement. It is also possible to add custom requirements. In this way, the EMKG-SLF have been further developed into a working and documentation tool based on users’ needs. The drafts were finally presented to three company users for testing and were found by them to be successful and practical.
