Combining work, family, and private life
It is not just the tasks performed by the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA) that are diverse. We also welcome diversity in our teams and always look for individual ways of meeting our employees’ work-life balance needs.
Enjoy the flexibility of a modern workplace with options for working from different locations, flexitime, and part-time hours.
If you ever need to bring your child with you to work, there are mobile playboxes available, as well as parent-and-child offices at our sites in Berlin and Dortmund.
When one of our employees returns to work after a lengthy absence for family reasons, a clearly defined, mandatory procedure helps them find their feet again.
Since 2015 an external family service has been helping parents to access appropriate childminding, preschool, and holiday care provision. Employees with caring responsibilities can also get advice about care packages and any difficulties they are facing.
Diversity and inclusion
Diversity is not just a feature of our widely ranging scientific and technical tasks and functions, but also of BAuA's social culture. Given how essential this is for successful collaborative working, it is therefore important for us to cultivate a workplace environment in which all our employees know they are valued, irrespective of their gender and origins, contribute their views, and are able to make the most of their potential. We are proud to have a balanced gender distribution at every level of our hierarchy. We employ people in more than fifty skilled occupations, each with its own specific career path. They include academic staff, administrative personnel, craft tradespeople, technicians, IT engineers, communications experts, and librarians, as well as specialists in many other fields. Our workforce is accordingly colourful - and it is this multiplicity of perspectives and talents that makes the working day particularly exciting and lively at BAuA.
It goes without saying that we foster an inclusive, diverse working environment. From the school-leaver starting an apprenticeship to the senior scientist, we offer all our staff fair opportunities, no matter what background, origins, and characteristics they may have. Inclusion is a vital element in our philosophy of BAuA as an organisation that cares for individuals’ welfare. This is why we strive actively to eliminate all forms of discrimination and break down barriers.
We view promoting diversity as a way of equipping BAuA for the future and a challenge we are keen to tackle as the Federal Institute becomes more inclusive. We endeavour to ensure BAuA and the DASA Working World Exhibition offer their employees scope for development, which means more than merely removing barriers, but actually empowering people to explore their freedoms and individuality.
