Unit 4.I.2 REACH Assessment Unit OSH

Within the scope of the REACH Regulation, Unit 4.I.2 of Division 4 of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) is the Assessment Unit for Occupational Safety and Health (REACH Assessment Unit OSH).

The REACH Assessment Unit OSH is responsible for developing and promoting measures to protect workers during the handling of chemicals. The tasks are established by the Unit and distributed across the expert units in Division 4. The most suitable instrument for hazardous substances management is selected under consideration of exposure to substances and their toxicological evaluation, as well as socio-economic aspects. The coordination of contribution from experts is organised by the Unit 4.I.2.

This includes the following topics:

  • harmonised classification and labelling;
  • identification of substances which may require regulation;
  • authorisation requirement;
  • restriction;
  • dossier evaluation;
  • substance evaluation;
  • the REACH-CLP-Biozid Helpdesk, including
    • responding to queries,
    • advising companies on REACH,
    • information events.
