Figures | Data | Facts

The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA) systematically observes and surveys changes and trends in the world of work, analysing their consequences for occupational safety and health (OSH). Our mission is to monitor the current situation, as well as analysing structural changes.

BIBB/BAuA Employment Survey

Every six years BAuA collaborates with the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung, BIBB) to conduct the BIBB/BAuA Employment Survey (BIBB-BAuA-Erwerbstätigenbefragung). The survey is based on 20,000 telephone interviews of gainfully employed persons. The results supply relevant findings about working conditions like work demands among different groups of employees and across different sectors.

BAuA-Working Time Survey

Another building block in the systematic monitoring of safety and health at work is the BAuA-Working Time Survey (BAuA-Arbeitszeitbefragung), which is conducted every two years. The analysis of the representative panel survey provides insights into working times of employees in Germany. Correlations between the working time organisation, health and well-being are also investigated.

Safety and Health at Work

As part of our reporting on the world of work, we publish the annual report on Safety and Health at Work (Sicherheit und Gesundheit bei der Arbeit) on behalf of the German Federal Government. It consists of a comprehensive compilation of data on occupational safety and health and related issues in Germany.

Mental Health at Work Study (S-MGA)

The Mental Health at Work Study (Studie zur Mentalen Gesundheit bei der Arbeit, S-MGA) is a longitudinal project based on a representative sample of German employees subject to social security contributions. This study generates the first nationwide representative survey enabling the exploration of the relationship between working conditions, mental health and functioning, as well as participation in employment. A total of 10,000 participants are currently being interviewed for the third wave of the survey.
