Recording of Working Times, Temporal Boundarylessness, and Flexibility Options for Employees: Results from the 2023 BAuA Working Time Survey
(in German)
Following recent judgements from the European Court of Justice (ECJ) and the German Federal Labour Court (Bundesarbeitsgericht, BAG), the significance of working time recording continues to be a matter of contention. Up-to-date figures from the 2023 BAuA Working Time Survey indicate that the recording of working times is somewhat more widespread than it was in 2021 and 2019, which applies for people working from home too. The figures also show that, where employers refrain from recording working times, this is increasingly associated with temporal boundarylessness, worse ability to switch off from work, less time flexibility, and employees who are more dissatisfied with their work-life balance.
