Smarter Workplaces: The Role of AI in Promoting Occupational Safety and Health (AI4POSH)

PD Dr. Thea Radüntz, head of the BAuA's unit "Artificial Intelligence in Work Systems", is organising a leading workshop on “Smarter Workplaces: The Role of AI in Promoting Occupational Safety and Health” at KI2025 (the 48th German Conference on Artificial Intelligence). KI is one of the major European AI conferences and traditionally brings together academic and industrial researchers from all areas of AI, providing an ideal venue for the exchange of news and research results in theory and applications. KI2025 is organised in conjunction with INFORMATIK 2025 and in cooperation with the Fachbereich Künstliche Intelligenz der Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI-SIG AI).

The workshop will explore both the exciting opportunities and the inherent risks of AI in work systems. While AI has the potential to significantly improve occupational safety and health, it is also crucial to develop methods to identify, quantify and mitigate the associated risks. The aim of the workshop is to contribute to the development of new AI applications that not only improve work processes, but also ensure safety, fairness, and privacy.

Through presentations of research projects, the workshop expects to demonstrate the great po-tential of AI-based technologies to create safer and healthier working environments.

Conference

Location:

University of Potsdam
August-Bebel-Straße 89
14482 Potsdam

Content:

Appropriate applications of AI in work systems can focus on risk assessment, exposure detection or risk assessment of intelligent systems. By integrating sensors with AI, environmental data can be analysed to identify and report even rare hazardous events. AI-driven automated image analysis, such as determining dermal exposure to chemicals, opens up new possibilities for improved safety measures. The workshop aims to demonstrate the wide range of AI applications in different areas of occupational safety and health.

Another important topic of the workshop will be the fairness and privacy risks associated with AI in work systems. As AI technologies become more integrated into the workplace, it is important to ensure that these systems operate in a fair, transparent, and unbiased manner, with-out compromising workers' privacy. Discussions will focus on strategies to mitigate these risks, maintain employee trust and promote the ethical use of AI in the workplace.

Participants will gain valuable insights into the practical benefits of AI in the workplace, while also having the opportunity to discuss the challenges and potential of these innovative technologies. This session is ideal for professionals who want to learn about the latest developments in AI for occupational safety and health. It also provides a unique platform to network with AI experts and gain inspiration for implementing AI technologies in their own work environments.
