Frequently asked questions
The new version 2.0 is available on the BAuA homepage. Older versions and printed manuals are no longer distributed.
find out more: Where can I get the latest version of ISOMAG? …
The most important new features include: Undo / Redo functionality, CAD Models import (STL-data format), prismatic body with user-definable cross section and an interactive isolator table in SQL-data format.
Since ISOMAG is no longer being further developed by the BAuA within the framework of R&D activities, no updates have been available for some time. The correct execution of ISOMAG under current operating system versions is only possible to a limited extent. There have already been problems with report generation for some time, and ISOMAG unfortunately no longer works at all with certain Windows 10 versions. Updates or the release of a new version of ISOMAG is not planned.
With regard to a replacement for ISOMAG, the manufacturer of the software, ESI ITI GmbH, published a blog post in March 2022:

The reports Fb 944 "ISOMAG 1.1 - Design and Calculation of the Vibration Isolation of Machines and Devices" and Fb 1014 "ISOMAG 1.2 - Extensions and Improvements" are not reissued. Instead, an updated detailed documentation and manual of ISOMAG is included in the latest software version.
Obtain the latest OpenGL-compatible video driver for your video card. Set the graphics refresh rate in the menu "View" from "1 View" to "4 Views". Use an available dedicated graphics card instead of the onboard graphics.
For any static and dynamic calculation in ISOMAG the isolator is assumed to be concentrated in a point. All stiffness' exactly work in theirs direction at the centre of gravity of the isolator, i.e. at the middle of the layout (or topology) of the isolator. The reference point, defined in the dialog page "Position", only describes the junction point of the spring element with the rigid body.
find out more: Where exactly is the spring stiffness of the isolator assumed to be located? …
This error only existed up to version 1.2 and has been fixed in version 2.0.
find out more: When isolators are rotated do unexpected results still come up? …
Usually ISOMAG calculates up to 100 Hz. In the menu "Calculation - Settings" you can change both, the maximum frequency and the time limit.
find out more: What is the upper cutoff frequency of ISOMAG calculations? …
The software is strictly based on linear and time-invariant parameters. Static spring characteristics are specified from the operating point of the spring, which is determined by applied static load. As spring stiffness for dynamic results, the rise of the characteristic curve (force-displacement characteristic curve of the spring) will be defined as linear for small displacement around the point of operation.
find out more: Are non-linear effects considered in ISOMAG? …
Larger excitations than the set maximum frequency may exist in the model. This can sum up to incorrect results. To avoid errors remove these excitations or change the frequency range.
This error only existed up to version 1.2 and has been fixed in version 2.0.
If an isolator has several sets of limits (maximum load or maximum value of acceptable displacement), they will be shown twice or more.
find out more: By searching in the database of isolators some isolators appear twice. …
The computer file in a .sdf-format is usually installed in the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\Isomag\Databases\
find out more: Where do i find the local database of ISOMAG? …
Air springs have no static stiffness. The database of isolators contains only the dynamic values. Please uncheck the checkbox "Calculation" of static displacement in the menu "Calculation - settings".
find out more: The static displacement is too big by using air springs. …
To avoid a false operation, you must now explicitly activate "Double vibration isolation" in the menu "Calculation - settings".
You must activate (by clicking) the foundation in the project tree at the right. Thereafter each defined excitation (besides ground excitation) will work at the foundation.
find out more: How can I produce an excitation by the foundation? …
Despite the existing button in a result window, the print designer is only tested and proven to work in the main window.
Starting the print designer initiates a mathematic recalculation of the model even if nothing has been changed. FFT-analysis windows will be closed automatically and can’t be included in the print designer.
Spherical model inertias will not automatically be calculated in the current version, thus these won't be considered in the calculation process to get the overall result. In consequence erroneous results will be produced.
