Loads, demands, resources and health from the employees’ perspective
BAuA, together with the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), carries out a representative survey of about 20,000 employees at regular in-tervals, asking them, among others, about their working conditions.
In telephone interviews of about 40 minutes, employees are asked, for example, what activities they are performing, what qualifications they offer and what compe-tencies they need. The interviewees also provide information on their working condi-tions and the stresses associated therewith. In addition, they are asked questions about work satisfaction and health problems.

The changes in the working world, often described with buzzwords such as "digitalisation", "globalisation" and "demographic change", have been impacting the workforce for a long time. They lead to changes in working conditions and framework conditions that can have a positive or negative impact on those affected. In order to be able to derive appropriate design measures, it is necessary to be able to describe these changes first.
As early as 1979 the BIBB and the Institute for Labour Market and Vocational Research (IAB) began carrying out occupational surveys in order to be able to describe the continuous changes in the working world. In order to be able to include questions regarding workload-oriented and work-requirement oriented questions in addition to questions concerning the qualification requirements and labour market requirements, the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) has been a project partner since the 1998/99 survey. Since 2005, the survey has been conducted jointly by BIBB and BAuA. This cooperation allows even greater concentration on the working conditions and the resulting stresses and strains.
