Tasks of the BAuA
The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) is a departmental research institution of the German federal government. It advises the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) on all matters relating to health and safety and helps to ensure that working conditions are adapted to the needs of humans.
As a federal agency tasked with research and development, the Federal Institute operates at the interface between science and politics and translates findings from the scientific system for use in the worlds of politics, workplace practice and society and vice versa.
The BAuA's responsibilities range from policy advice to the performance of sovereign tasks, the transfer of knowledge into workplace practice, and the educational and communication work of DASA. This work is reliant on rapid access to scientific expertise in all areas of occupational safety and health, on a continuous ability to address long-term problems, and on neutrality and independence.
