Work related investigation of the rate of SARS-CoV-2 infected and Post-COVID symptomatic people based on data of the health authorities in Thuringia

Project number: F 2545 Institution: Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) Status: Ongoing Project Planned end: 2023-07-31

Description:

A significant proportion of infections in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic are attributed to the work context. The prevention of transmission of infection at the workplace requires scientific evidence on the relevant factors. The project aims to contribute to this.

A case study will examine the risk of transmission, of severe infection as well as the manifestation of consequences of the disease with regard to work and work ability in the various areas of working life. The study will be based on the registration data from the health authorities on positive SARS-CoV-2 cases in Thuringia.

As a measuring instrument, there will be developed an online questionnaire, which is to be verified for its informative value. Such a measuring instrument can contribute to a low-threshold evaluation of infection prevention measures and the identification of behaviour and occupational context factors that contribute to infections. The present project aims at scientifically summarising knowledge of SARS-CoV-2 infections in the workplace and SARS-CoV-2 occupational safety standards in an integrative approach.

The findings from the project are expected to lead to generalisable statements on how to deal with a pandemic in the work context, in which there is considerable federal interest with regard to future pandemics. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales, BMAS).
