A Study on etiological associations between working conditions, mental health and work ability
From a social policy perspective, securing participation in working life from entry to reaching the statutory retirement age is an important goal. The focus here is not only on early retirement, but also on discontinuous employment patterns with periods of longer illness, unemployment and periods of disability retirement.
In the discussion of the key factors that influence the transition from active participation at work to early retirement, health factors are frequently mentioned. This raises the question whether participation in working life can be predicted by indicators of mental health. This subproject aims at examining the measures of mental health, workability and functioning - from the baseline of the SMGA study – as risk factors for participation in work during the follow-up.
