Working time reporting for Germany

Project number: F 2360 Institution: Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) / infas Institut für angewandte Sozialwissenschaft GmbH Status: Ongoing Project Planned end: 2021-12-31

The BAuA (re-)introduces a systematic monitoring of working times in Germany. At first, the related survey is cross-sectional, but the survey approach would allow for further measurement points (an extension towards a longitudinal study). Relevant protagonists and institutions from the working time research community are consulted in the preparation phase of the working time monitoring (especially in the survey development phase). This consultation process ensures that relevant constructs for a systematic reporting on working time questions in Germany are considered and pertinent measurement methods are used.

A representative sample of the working population is surveyed for the monitoring of working times in Germany. Concerning the targeted constructs, the working population’s strain shall be assessed as well as specific stressor constellations of different groups of the labor force and also individual characteristics. This approach enables the use of the collected data for purposes of present and future-oriented policy advice as well as for scientific purposes.

The BAuA thus makes use of the collected data in a strategic utilization approach by providing different publication formats like policy advise and transfer-oriented as well as scientific publications.
