Molecular biological methods are currently used in many scientific studies to detect microorganisms qualitatively as well as quantitative, for examples in ecological studies or in medical diagnostics. For the detection of occupational exposure however, these methods have been used very rarely. With regard to risk assessment these methods can clearly increase our knowledge for occupational safety. The goal of this project is to verify whether the generation of 16S rRNA gene clone libraries from bioaerosol samples, are suitable to detect exposure to bacteria on highly contaminated workplaces with mixed exposures with high quality. Presumably this method has got the potential to be suitable for standardization.
