Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Code of Practice for Handling of Nanomaterials in Laboratories, a Contribution to the Third-Party Funded Project "NanoValid" of Nordmiljö AB (Sweden) in the EU 7th Framework Programme

Project number: F 2268 Institution: Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) Status: Completed Project

Description:

In consequence of the high innovative potential, a broad diversity of different new nanomaterial is being handled by research institutions, start-up companies and small/medium sized businesses. During this project, BAuA in cooperation with an international consortium will develop a draft OSH Code of Practice for safe handling of nanomaterial in laboratories. The code will be evaluated in field surveys and will be supplemented by a corresponding training concept. The objective is to create a sound basis for consistent standards regarding safe handling of nanomaterial in laboratory scale based on the EU precautionary principle.

Embedded into the EU FP7 project NanoValid, BAuA developed "Nano to go!" - a practically oriented guideline for safe handling of nanomaterials and other innovative materials at workplaces.

"Nano to go!" consists of several elements and contains a brochure, field studies, presentations and general documents to comprehensively support risk assessment and risk management.
