Autonomous Right of the Statutory Accident Insurers

According to § 15 SGB (German Social Insurance Code) VII, with the cooperation of the German Statutory Accident Insurance Association (DGUV), the statutory accident insurers have the autonomous right to enact accident prevention guidelines surrounding steps for the prevention of accidents at the workplace, occupational diseases and occupational health risks, and/or for effective first aid, insofar as they are appropriate and necessary for the purposes of prevention and the governmental occupational safety guidelines do not provide for any regulations in this field.

To be able to fulfil their wide-ranging tasks according to § 14 et seqq. SGB VII, the statutory accident insurers enact accident prevention guidelines (UVV), the compliance with which is monitored by the statutory accident insurer' supervisory bodies.

Under these guidelines, the statutory accident insurers have also compiled a comprehensive set of regulations (rules, information and principles) to support business owners and insured employees with the completion of their obligations in the area of occupational health and safety. The specialist divisions and departments in the DGUV are responsible for developing the set of guidelines and regulations.
