Description:
In the course of this project, different assumptions were made regarding questions such as: "Are there enough occupational safety specialists?", "Do we have the right people for the job?", and "How will things be ten years from now?"
An important conclusion of this research is the fact that there are unlikely to be any quantitative bottlenecks regarding safety-related care ten years from now. However, the study also demonstrated deficiencies in certain areas surrounding the specialists' professional capabilities. In the field of professional conduct and relating to other occupational safety specialists in the correct way, deficiencies came to light that have not yet been sufficiently compensated for with the appropriate training measures. In the future, these areas of expertise will gain further relevance, increasing the requirements surrounding the specialists even more.
The study authors highlight different approaches for alleviating the aforementioned shortcomings in the area of qualitative capacity. Their recommendations aim to improve the quality of the specialists' education and advanced training as well as to further develop the general conditions of their occupation.
The results of the study clearly show that the present data on the quantitative and qualitative resources of occupational safety specialists needs to be complemented to ensure safety-related support that is both comprehensive and oriented to the operational requirements of businesses and organisations.
