The occupational handling of heavy loads and the coxarthrosis risk in a historical cohort of "SDAG Wismut" employees - a nested case-control study ("Coxarthrosis-Study of Wismut employees")

  • Project number: F 2239
  • Institution: Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA)
  • Status: Completed Project

Description:

The risk of coxarthrosis after occupational exposure is currently discussed. There is a lack of knowledge regarding the differential description of the interrelation between the intensity of exposure and the risk of coxarthrosis. Furthermore, the question of how the risk of affection can be adequately displayed through the calculation of a cumulated exposure has to be answered. In the project the relation between occupational handling of heavy loads and the risk of coxarthrosis, but also between the risk of coxarthrosis and further occupational factors of heavy physical work, like the forced bearing, kneeling and squatting, walking on uneven ground and other than occupational exposure factors like overweight is studied.

On a national level, the results, especially for the Medical Advisory Board "Occupational Diseases" of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, are needed in order to formulate scientifically proven decrees for the prevention, rehabilitation and compensation of work-related diseases.
