Inclusion at BAuA

We practise an open, tolerant social culture at the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA). An inclusive, diverse working environment is our standard.

For us, inclusion means far more than merely the physical presence of people with different backgrounds, skills, and life experiences. It is a central pillar of our philosophy of BAuA as an organisation that cares for individuals’ welfare. From the school-leaver starting an apprenticeship to the professor with decades of experience, we offer all our staff fair opportunities, no matter what background, skills, and characteristics they may have. We take action to prevent all forms of discrimination and systematically break down barriers.

We regard empathy and sensitivity as key competences for an inclusive working culture in which colleagues put themselves in others’ shoes, understanding their perspectives and needs. This demands not just open-mindedness and respect, but also the willingness to listen actively and take feedback on board. Only in this way can we broaden our own views and develop greater tolerance and understanding of diversity.

BAuA’s Representative Body for Disabled Employees is strongly committed to working collaboratively with all our staff and the other bodies that represent them to build a workplace that offers more than just accessibility. Our aim is to ensure every single one of our colleagues feels confident, secure, appreciated, and supported so that their talents can develop unhindered.
