In this project Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) continues its contribution to CarboSafe founded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). CarboSafe focuses on safety and health aspects for carbon nano tubes (CNT) and carbon nano fibres (CNF) as an essential part of the innovation initiative Inno.CNT and the high-tech strategy of the German Government. Health risks for employees in production and handling of CNT/CNF and their products life cycle are in the spotlight of BAuA research activities. These cover development, validation and standardization of laboratory methods to characterise the dustiness of CNT/CNF and methods for measurement of CNT/CNF aerosols and their agglomerates / aggregates at workplaces. Another main focus is the measurement of exposure against CNT/CNF-aerosols in the processing of products made from CNT/CNF.
