Health risks in poultry farming

Project number:
F 2052
Institution:

Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA)

Status:
ongoing
Planned end:
2012.12.31
Description:

Activities in agriculture, especially in the intensive mass animal farming, are burdened partially considerably with airborne biological agents in spite of technical and organisational measures. Therefore an elevated prevalence of respiratory disease occurs in stock farmers. The aim of the longitudinal study is to evaluate the potential impact of exposure on health adverse effects in a group of poultry workers. For these purposes airborne exposure was performed preferably by personal sampling and the exposed workers were examined concerning lung function and immunological parameters. The study makes contributions to search for predictive health adverse effects in humans as well for evaluated methods for quantification of airborne biological agents.
