Authorisation of biocidal products: Exposure assessment and protective measures
Directive 98/8/EC concerns the placing of biocidal products on the market. In Germany it was brought into force by the Biocides Law, e. g. by amending the Chemicals Law, and the ordinance on the admission of biocide products. More detailed information about the authorisation process is seeked in the Technical Notes for Guidance (TNsG). The TNsG "Human Exposure to Biocidal Products" covers the estimation of human exposure to biocides for specific use activities, during professional and non-professional application. The document contains fundamental concepts and specific guidance for the determination and evaluation of predominantly occuring dermal exposure. This procedure for exposure determination and evaluation is of fundamental importance not only for the issue of biocidal products. It contains pattern of use statements for several product types, the available exposure data, and a short description of database and mathematical models which may be used for exposure modelling. A tiered approach is recommended for exposure assessment making best use of the exposure information available.
