Occupational health effects of modern office work
Trends of development and main occupational health topics of modern office work including own research data have been discussed in 12 papers during a one day postgraduate course at the Federal Institute for Occupational Medicine and are reprinted on the following pages.
The mosaic like presentations lead to a many-sided picture of a growing and changing sector of the working world, in which emphasis is floating from monocausal, well defined disease entities to work-related diseases and health impairment. Symptoms of the musculoskeletal system or the vision organ, often primarily related to the seating working place or with work places on VDTs, reveal in a second look as conditioned in a more complex manner and influenced for instance by work organisation and "work place climate".
Further problems identified are indoor air pollution and the so-called sick building syndrome. State of the art in this field and results of own new research projects were presented.
