Occupational safety and health on construction sites - experience with the application of the Construction Sites Ordinance

For many years the construction industry, one of the most important sectors, has had the worst accident rate, a high level of sickness and a high proportion of early invalidity. Hazards and work-loads in construction work are mostly greater than in other areas of industry. The Construction Sites Ordinance, which came into force on 1 July 1998 and which implements the European Construction Sites Directive in German law, is a major prerequisite for improving safety and health in construction work.
