Application for confidential treatment of substance identities

In principle two procedures are possible to submit an application for confidential treatment of the chemical identity of substances in preparations / mixtures until 31 May 2015:

• Under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP Regulation) an application can be submitted to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in Helsinki (the process is currently being established)

• Under Article 15 of Directive 1999/45/EC (Preparations Directive) an application has to be submitted to the Federal Office for Chemicals. The approved alternative name can also be used beyond 31 May 2015.

From 1 June 2015 onwards the ECHA in Helsinki is exclusively responsible for the procedure.
